GIAN: attractive, thin texture mat adhered inside concrete mould
GIAN is the name of the innovative texture mat from Compañero. This texture mat is easy to handle and can be used repeatedly.
Our formliners are used by prefab concrete companies. Below are a number of examples of concrete patterns made using GIAN texture mats.

Overview of concrete textures made with GIAN anti-slip formliners (click on photo)
Aquaplaning
A special form of aquaplaning can occur when walking. Motorists are familiar with this phenomenon: when you drive fast over a wet road, a thin film of water can form between the surface and the tyres.
As a result, the car briefly loses traction and cannot be controlled.
The same phenomenon occurs when a person walks on, for example, a smooth wet surface.
A thin film of water between the shoe sole and surface causes extremely low frictional resistance, resulting in an increased risk of slipping.
Aquaplaning on steps, walkways, balconies and other walking surfaces can be combated effectively.
The first step in this process is to ensure that the water under the shoe sole is drained away quickly.
That is why almost all GIAN textures ‘emboss’ small channels into the concrete, in which the shoe sole can help wick away the water.
The second step in the process of giving concrete excellent anti-slip properties is the addition of a micro-relief texture.
This can be created by pressing a GIAN texture mat with a sandblast texture into the concrete.
The sandblast texture gives aquaplaning absolutely no chance to develop.
Recommendation:
For optimum anti-slip safety on concrete surfaces, we recommend textures that combine drainage channels with a micro-relief texture. |
GIAN 1 large diamond texture (35 x 14 mm)
The GIAN 1 large diamond texture has been improved significantly from the old small diamond* pattern.
A wider drainage groove now carries away rainwater even more quickly.
This drainage process is enhanced when the concrete surface is walked on.
The rolling action of the shoe presses the water into the groove.
In other words, the GIAN 1 large diamond texture effectively combats aquaplaning in two ways.
Another improvement to the GIAN 1 texture is the enlarged diamonds. The new dimensions
are 35 x 14 mm. This produces a more attractive pattern since the enlarged texture is easier on the eyes.
* The small 25 x 9 mm diamond version is still available.

GIAN 1 large diamond texture is available in widths of 2 and 3 metres. Anti-slip effect: very good.
GIAN 2 sandblast texture- R13
The GIAN 2 sandblast texture was developed by Compañero especially for the concrete industry.
The contra-sandblast texture in the mat gives the concrete an effective sandblast anti-slip effect after removal.
From an environmental and technical perspective, the use of the GIAN 2 texture mat is preferable to blasting because no particulate matter is released during production and
the top layer does not become porous due to sandblasting. The use of the GIAN 2 texture mat keeps the top layer of the concrete surface intact, making it less susceptible to moisture and dirt absorption.
The GIAN 2 sandblast texture goes together excellently with our other sandblast products: GIAN 2S (square sandblast), GIAN 7 (dot sandblast), GIAN 8 (rib sandblast) and GIAN 9 (octagon sandblast).

GIAN 2 sandblast texture is available in widths of 2 and 3 metres. Anti-slip effect: good.
GIAN 2 S square with sandblast texture (12 x 12 mm)
The rough surface provides a better grip when slippery, while the groove between the relatively small squares (12 x 12 mm) funnels water off quickly.
The rough texture and water drainage effectively prevent aquaplaning. GIAN 2 S has an attractive design and a texture that is perfect for wet environments.
 
GIAN 2 S square with sandblast texture is available in widths of 2 and 3 metres. Anti-slip effect: very good.
GIAN 3 rib heavy duty texture
(rib with 35 mm stone chips combined with 10 mm breadthwise drainage channel)
The GIAN 3 rib heavy duty texture was developed especially for cattle grid floors.
But this texture can also be used for industrial areas that get covered in dirt and grime tracked in on the soles of (work) shoes.
The maximum width of this tread is 125 cm.
 
GIAN 3 is available in a width of 1.25 metres. Anti-slip effect: very good.
GIAN 4 stone chips texture
A solid-looking anti-slip texture with an attractive and whimsical light and dark line pattern.
Some users say the texture looks like snakeskin, while others see a diamond pattern.
 
GIAN 4 is available in a width of 2+ and 3+ metres. Anti-slip effect: good.
GIAN 5 plus: 5a pyramid, 5b sphere pyramid and 5c line pyramid (or broom stroke)
The rough surface of these three very similar-looking textures provides a better grip. The line pyramid texture looks like a broom has swept across wet concrete. The GIAN 5 plus range is only available on request. These textures are not kept in stock or only in limited quantities. Ask about the special processing instructions and aesthetic guarantees. |
GIAN 6 pressed woven texture (9 x 2.5 mm)
Roughness is created by the horizontal and vertical convex surface.
The GIAN 6 tested satisfactory for leather shoe soles on a wet surface.
We recommend thoroughly cleaning the surface of the GIAN 6 regularly, especially on the shady side of the building.
Algae formation can cause slipperiness, so we advise against placing plants along walkways with the GIAN 6 texture.
  GIAN 6 is available in widths of 2 and 3 metres. Anti-slip effect: satisfactory.
GIAN 7 dot with sandblast texture (29 mm)
The rough surface provides a better grip when slippery, while
the groove between the dots (around 29 mm) funnels water off quickly. The rough texture and water drainage effectively prevent aquaplaning.
The round, attractive design of the GIAN 7 dots gives the concrete a softer effect, making this texture suitable for use in almost any type of building.
 
GIAN 7 is available in a width of 2 metres. Anti-slip effect: very good.
GIAN 8 sandblast rib (20 mm-wide sandblast rib)
This elegant concrete texture can be used for a wide range of applications.
The 20 mm-wide sandblast rib positioned diametrically opposite to the walking direction is interrupted every 10 millimetres.
The rough sections effectively combat aquaplaning, while the limited depth and width of the groove in the GIAN 8 sandblast rib prevents wheelchair and motorised scooter users from experiencing bumps.
In other words, no vibrations are felt when crossing the prefab concrete.
The GIAN 8 sandblast rib is a variation on the commonly used texture in natural stone.
It gives a luxurious look to stairs, walkways, pedestrian bridge surfaces, and so on.
 
GIAN 8 is available in a width of 2 metres. Anti-slip effect: very good.
GIAN 9 octagon with sandblast texture (12 x 12 mm)
This texture is a whimsical variation on the GIAN 2 S. The octagons, which look like circles from a distance, give a unique look to the area in which they are used.
Most importantly, the anti-slip properties of this texture are excellent.
 
GIAN 9 is available in a width of 2 metres. Anti-slip effect: very good.
GIAN 10 matted smooth
The GIAN 10 has a slightly matted texture that gives the concrete surface a velvety look. The smooth-looking surface provides good anti-slip properties when used indoors.
The GIAN 10 prevents concrete from becoming shiny, which is why this matted texture is sometimes used by architects and builders on building facades for purely aesthetic reasons.
